My specialty is performing safe at-home detoxification – mostly from opioids, alcohol and benzodiazepines (e.g. Xanax). I generally work with the referring therapist and one of our Recovery Coaches, both of whom provide care during detox and after detox has been completed. As a member of a customized treatment team, my role is the medical management of both the addiction as well as co-occurring psychiatric conditions such as depression or bipolar disorder. After 20 years of work in the field of chemical dependency, I have learned that one size does not fit all. For some, group-based treatment works well. For others, especially those with social phobia, group therapy can threaten rather than enhance sobriety, and for such people individualized therapy is more appropriate. My goal is to make the patient as comfortable as possible.
