Therapist Overview
Life without struggle would be pretty boring, but too much can keep people from experiencing the life they want. My entire career has been focused helping adolescents, families, and adults understand patterns that get in the way of joy and connection. We come to believe that those patterns are who we are. But they are not. They are just how our childhoods, traumas, and experiences have shaped us. It’s not easy reshaping how we think about ourselves and others. Meaningful therapy is hard. I don’t do therapy to teach new skills. I want my clients to heal in ways that reshape how they see themselves and the world. There are reason you are the way you are. Unfortunately, most of us don’t know those reasons. Internal Family Systems (IFS) modality helps clients gain deep understanding the experiences that have shaped them and how they inform the ways we respond to particular stressors. It is a model that heals the wounds that shape us. Healing is hard and therapy should be challenging. IFS is a kind approach to therapy but I am not always soft. I do encourage clients to do the work of healing. I often feel honored to see clients let go of who they thought they were as the emerge into the person they want to be.
