In my view, the client (or couple) who gets the most out of counseling is the one who demonstrates the following characteristics. They: (1) know what they want and are highly motivated to achieve it, (2) are willing to reflect on all aspects of their personhood–that is, emotions, thinking, and behavior, (3) are capable of taking responsibility for their own thoughts, feelings, and interactions with others, and (4) desire to become more loving of themselves and others. I am one of three Certified EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) therapists in Asheville. My goals are that you leave every session with the sense that I was working for your goals, sensitive to your feelings, and using strategies that seemed helpful. Above all, I want you to feel that I honored and cared about you as a unique and special person. Are you facing a problem or issue that seems overwhelming?
