The key to speech and language development is to create situations in which a child has to use speech and language to make something happen. For young children, the power of communication is best realized through play-based therapy, carefully aligned with developmental norms. Listening skills, vocabulary and sentence development, speech sound production, fluent speech, and social communication skills can all be intertwined in play-based therapy. Older children benefit from targeted tasks, high interest topics, learning through preferred modalities, and compensatory strategies as needed to increase their communication proficiency. I treat children who have speech, language, social communication, voice, and fluency delays or disorders. In addition to assessments and therapy, I also provide consultations related to speech and language to parents, attorneys, advocates, and school districts .
