It has been said that through relationships we are wounded and by relationships we are healed. Having myself experienced the power of healing relationships, it is my aim as a counselor to foster a collaborative, healing relationship that provides safety for healing and growth. Many factors affect a person’s ability to thrive as an individual and in relationships, including the residual effects of loss and what has been done to a person, patterns of relating learned within one’s family, internalized beliefs about oneself and the world, and relational and spiritual disconnection. I assist clients in understanding their struggles in the context of their family of origin while also helping clients to gain insight into their internal and interpersonal struggles. I also incorporate trauma awareness into treatment. This includes teaching basic skills to manage emotions that feel out of control and assisting clients process the traumatic experiences.
