Therapist Overview
I have been a psychotherapist for over 30 years. For twenty-five of those years I was with the Mendocino Community Health Clinic as Director of, and therapist in, the Behavioral Health Department which provided psychotherapy, behavioral medicine, and drug and alcohol treatment. I have experience treating a wide range of mental health disorders using a variety of therapeutic techniques. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, is foundational to my treatment approach. The content and quality of one’s thoughts have a profound effect on how much happiness and suffering we experience in life. Positive change is possible and ever-present. Therapy works best when client and therapist can establish a trusting and comfortable relationship. The techniques employed are often of secondary importance. However, I have found mindfulness training is often a key component of successful treatment. I believe that, in any particular case, the techniques used depend on the patient’s needs and preferences.
