Therapist Overview
Some of my areas of practice are working with couples, parents, and adolescents. In addition, I enjoy working with men in a variety of issues such as marriage, masculinity, and fatherhood. I also work with clients in matters related to loss and grief. As a veteran myself, I am acutely aware of what it means to serve as a member of the military. I have worked with members of all branches and components of the military, and I have a passion for helping those who are making the transition from active service to veteran status. In therapy, I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques to teach skills related to the core goals of mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. I have specialized training in Radically Open DBT (RODBT) for people who struggle with issues such as perfectionism, harsh self-judgments, avoidance, and isolation Many clients are seeking to make changes in their lives and change is difficult! I use Motivational Interviewing and the stages of change to coach clients in a non-judgmental manner towards finding their own internal motivation for making change. This type of therapy is practical, empathetic, and frequently short-term in length.
