What is Psychological Testing and Evaluation?

Psychological Testing and Evaluation is testing done by mental health professionals trained to evaluate the results and make a mental health diagnosis.

Sometimes, it can be evident that an individual is dealing with symptoms of a mental illness. But simply observing behavior or guessing what’s wrong is not enough for a psychological diagnosis. Psychological Testing and Evaluation is a highly specialized form of study where professionals give the correct tests to individuals dealing with symptoms of a mental health concern.

Psychological Testing and Evaluation is available at schools, hospitals, clinics, or private offices. Your physician can refer you to a testing specialist specific to your needs. Then a psychologist will speak with you about the symptoms you’re experiencing. They might administer a particular test involving writing, speaking, or doing tasks. It could take several hours. Your psychologist will explain the process as you go along.

After testing, you will either come back to visit the specialist to learn the results or speak with a counselor about findings.

Therapists Who Specialize in Using Psychological Testing and Evaluation

In my professional work (testing and therapy), I believe in meeting individuals where they are at in their lives. I believe most individuals seek testing or therapy when they have reached a point where they feel something needs to change (for therapy patients) or they want an answer (for testing patients). I also believe some individuals are not as certain and seek professional assistance for...

I respect my chosen profession of psychology and protect the sacredness of trust given to me. I hope it was earned by the many people who have touched me and kept me from taking myself too seriously. I am a clinical and health psychologist who believes in physical, emotional an...
I view therapy as a place for both the patient and the therapist to be real and authentic. Therapy can be a place where we come together to listen to and honor those parts of ourselves that we cut off. Over time, as we come to acknowledge and accept those parts of self that have been left behind, we can come to feel whole again. In this way, therapy does not eliminate every pain or problem, but...

In terms of my treatment approach, my style is warm, direct, and collaborative. I find that most issues that bring individuals to therapy are, at their core, about emotions and relationships. So, I spend a good deal of effort learning about patterns of emotional expression within current and important historical relationships. My approach is to seek immediate reduction of symptoms while creatin...
