What is Positive Psychology?

Positive Psychology focuses on the positive influences in the client’s life, such as institutions, optimistic emotions, and character strengths.

Positive Psychology therapists believe that emotional and mental factors lead to happiness, so they help clients identify happiness from moment to moment.

Positive Psychology utilizes positive emotion, engagement, and meaning to enhance the client’s life. The therapist will ask the client to maintain a journal of positive experiences each day in detail. Keeping a gratitude journal helps rewire the brain, offsetting ruminations of negativity. The client becomes more attentive to their expectations and memories of events, creating a more balanced perspective.

So many therapists, so little time. The good news? By the end of a short phone call, you’ll probably have a sense of whether I’m likely to be the one. By the end of your first session, you most likely will. Why? Well, there is something about the sense of comfort (or discomfort), awareness, and general experience that is critical to therapy being successful but is notoriously hard to tell in...
