What is Internal Family Systems Therapy?

Home » Treatment Therapies » Internal Family Systems (IFS) » Page 64

Internal Family Systems therapy encourages people to embrace all parts of themselves, even the difficult ones. Its goal is to help people achieve balance and harmony within themselves.

IFS states that people do not have “bad” parts. Instead, they experience difficulty embracing all aspects as simultaneously affecting one another. IFS seeks to name and understand these parts and ultimately balance the factors that work toward self-growth.

Life experiences can encourage the various parts of the self to become out of balance, forcing the system into a less-than-harmonious operating state. Your IFS counselor will help you recognize these parts of yourself, inquire as to why you think they might be off-balance, and then assist you in balancing them.

People with a wide range of mental health concerns can benefit from IFS, but it is particularly effective for those who have dealt with traumatic experiences.

You've tried meeting with "trauma therapists," but it can be so hard to find the right person when you feel like they don't get your lifestyle. Moreso when you're a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, the kink community, or the ethical non-monogamy/poly community. Nobody should have to live with the pain of shame, sadness, worry, or mistrust that comes from having survived traumas. Everyone deser...
It's time to finally step up and make the changes in you life that will lead you to peace and joy. Many of us live with a lifetime of pain and defeat. To better love family, friends, and most of all...
This is a huge step you have taken to begin your healing process! Childhood trauma disconnects us from the truth of who we are. We believe that somehow the hurt we experienced is our fault, we are not good enough, worthless, we don’t matter, or we should have tried harder, etc. Without healing, these beliefs follow us far into adulthood. We are left repeating dysfunctional family dynamics, copi...
