An Adjustment Disorder is when a person experiences distressing symptoms that affect their day-to-day life due to a stressful event that occurred within the past three months. The stress resulting from the event is more substantial than the stress that people occasionally experience in that it disrupts daily functioning. Anyone can experience an Adjustment Disorder after a particularly stressful or traumatic event. The disorder has the potential to develop into other mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, or other trauma-related disorders.
