A psychologist has a doctoral degree (Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D.) in psychology. After graduate school, they complete a multi-year internship. They do not have medical degrees. So, although they can treat mental health disorders, they cannot perform medical procedures or prescribe medications. As a result, they typically work with a psychiatrist or other medical doctor.

If you’re looking for a psychologist you can use our vetted directory of mental health professionals to find psychologists in your area. Start your journey below.

I believe that healing relationships, with others and with one's self, is the core ingredient for change in therapy. I feel that the optimal therapeutic approach with any person must be tailored to the needs of the particular individual and/or client system. Therapy should be approachable and create an environment of acceptance and self-love. In understanding human behavior, it is not so much...
I believe that behavior without context is meaningless. We blame ourselves too easily for things which go wrong whether they are within or beyond our control. Our natural guiding intuitions are overridden by years of social conditioning. In stressful situations, primitive reactions trigger and hijack our ability to make calm decisions. We overreact too often. My staff and I help you understand ...
After working with people in psychotherapy for 42 years I understand that every new person who comes to see me is in emotional crisis, usually frightened, and has mixed feelings about seeking help. I experience every person as unique; initially, it is critical for people to know that they are working with someone who is non-judgmental and worthy of their trust. I still believe that the essence ...
I believe that we are influenced by various contextual factors and that by gaining a better understanding of these factors we can gain a better awareness of ourselves. When it comes to substance misuse, there can be various factors and negative emotions that come to play. I strongly believe that we are all doing the best that we can and may struggle how to improve. Collaboration and empowerment...
