Therapist Overview

When we are struggling with depression, anxiety, anger, guilt, or shame, the negative things we believe about ourselves are probably the culprits. Our thoughts about an experience or event can powerfully affect our entire being and therapy can help get to core issues causing it. If you experienced a traumatic event, whether in childhood or as an adult; if you are or were a first responder and are experiencing isolation/detachment, hypervigilence, depression, nightmares, flashbacks, or panic attacks, techniques in therapy can enable your brain to process the traumatic experience which will alleviate the debilitating symptoms. During therapy I help you understand how your thoughts affect your emotions and behavior and teach skills to make it a positive association. When traumatized you see everything through the lens of that event because the brain could not reconcile it, therefore not process it. EMDR can be used to help the brain to process it and reduce it to just a memory. My goal is to move everyone I counsel towards peace and a sound mind and help you take back control over your life. As a retired law enforcement officer, I can also relate to the effects of trauma and stress unique to being a first responder. My experience can be helpful to not only clients who are first responders, but also their spouses.
