Many of my clients come to me with anxiety disorders or closely related OCD or trauma disorders. They find their worlds shrinking as a result of their suffering and aren’t sure how to halt the cycle. Likewise, I also see clients troubled by substance use, psychotic disorders, and everyday relationship issues like lack of connection, and they too are dealing with pain that gets in the way of what’s important in their lives. No matter the problem, they often feel trapped or stuck and want to find a way through the barriers keeping them from meaning and purpose in their lives. Often, for clients with anxiety and trauma disorders, I use exposure therapy to break cycles of fear, anxiety, and avoidance. With other clients, I use acceptance & commitment therapy (ACT) to help figure out what’s important, take meaningful action in that direction, and use mindfulness skills to relate more effectively to difficult thoughts and emotions. Going through life feeling disconnected, afraid, or lonely is not living the life you want. You can be the person you were or the person you want to be.
