Therapist Overview
I help families of teens go from worry and anxiety to renewed connection and happiness. We all want our kids to be happy, and it’s hard to watch them struggle. Our teens face the same adolescent challenges we did (intense emotions & feeling “different,” without having the long-range view adulthood brings)–but they also navigate the additional stress of violence (school shootings), grief (rising suicide rates), exposure (social media) and non-stop accessibility (smartphones + internet). While our teens wrestle with anxiety and feel alone, parents worry they could lose their kid to depression, mental health issues, or even suicide. My practice is about helping families reconnect and get out of the worry zone. By being down to earth and meeting teens where they are, I make therapy both relevant and fun so they stay engaged with the process. I work with parents and adolescents ages 12 and up; providing them with an environment and the tools they need to navigate the difficulties. These are hard times to be a teen (and parent!) but we can give them what they need to face these challenges successfully. I watch these kids come through, a weight lifted as they realize they’re not alone–and parents relieved as their teen re-emerges from their room, excited about life, the light in their face returned.
