Jenny K Lawler

I am a Clinical Social Worker with 24 years experience working in community mental health, residential and school settings. I currently work as a clinician in a therapeutic middle school program, in addition to my private practice. My clinical orientation with children, adolescents and their families is based on a number of theories including cognitive behavioral, insight oriented, skill building and theory of mind concepts. Some youth do best with a relationship-based intervention, others require more practical problem solving and coaching, while others need alternative modes to express themselves like art or play therapy. I have worked with children and adolescents with issues such as anxiety, mood disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder and learning disabilities. I understand how these diagnoses can complicate the developmental process. I also work collaboratively with schools to help provide the child the supports necessary to function as a successful and happy student. In addition to the children and adolescents, I also enjoy helping parents feel competent in caring for their child, as well as, re-establish or strengthen the parent child relationship.
