Therapist Overview
I often work with people who are facing a major life transition and/or who are feeling “stuck.” Whether that is a career change, divorce, having a child, or a major illness (just to name a few), therapy can be incredibly helpful in finding the ground beneath your feet by figuring out what your goals are and how to get there. I also work with a lot of individuals who have survived some type of trauma, including major medical illness. I find that the big “why are we here?” questions can often be important to address after traumatic experiences. Fundamentally, I believe that how we connect to others and the meaning we make of our experiences are important. Those are big questions, of course, and so I use relational and insight-oriented therapy to get there. Specifically, I also use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness meditation, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I often hear that my warmth, gentleness, and genuine interest in understanding others is what draws people to me. When you come to me for therapy, I want to know about both the internal and external experiences that have brought you to my office, including how things like gender, race, faith, health, and sexual orientation have shaped you and your world.
