What is Attachment-Based Therapy?

Attachment-Based Therapy relies on John Bowlby’s Attachment Theory to inform the therapeutic process. Attachment Theory emphasizes the quality of an infant’s connection to its parent, most primarily its mother. If a child is adequately cared for and responded to, they will grow up to form healthy relationships. If a mother is too distant, unresponsive, or overly cautious, the infant is more likely to grow up to experience unhealthy relationships. Children must get adequate care and love to learn to trust others and themselves.

Attachment-Based Therapy’s goal is to help you rebuild the context of your relationships in more healthy, positive ways. Your therapist will show you openness, caring, and empathy. You can experience what a healthy relationship looks and feels like through this therapeutic relationship.

Although therapists can use it for individual or group therapy, you may benefit from Attachment-Based Therapy in a family therapy setting.

Your therapist will help you discover your particular attachment style based on your relationship with your parents and your early memories of family relationships. They also will explore your current relationship dynamics as they relate to your upbringing. With this understanding, you and your therapist can then begin to restructure your existing relationships based on a foundation of love and trust.

SPIRITUALITY + THE NERVOUS SYSTEM | I take a mind-body-spirit approach to therapy. I work remotely and in person with somatic counseling and shamanic healing. I like to work with the nervous system: through big-T Traumas a little-t traumas, many of us are not as regulate...
Let’s get one thing straight, therapy is not going to fix you. It’s not going to fix you because you aren't broken. You are in pain, confused, hurt, uncertain, and struggling. The problem is not WHO you are, it is the ways in which you experience and interpret the world around you. The goal in therapy is to reframe the pain points by identifying the problematic thought patterns that perpetuate...
*Not accepting new clients* My ideal client is a client who understands that therapy does not fix you because you are not broken. The ideal client understands that therapy helps them to uncover strengths and learn new skills that will allow them to deal with the challenges that arise in life. Are you feeling increasingly lonely, stuck, or overwhelmed? While we are built to survive and adapt, all of us at some point will likely struggle with change, loss, traumatic stress, intrusive worries, mood swings, relationship difficulties, or self-defeating patterns. We look inside and out for support, relief, and perspective, to help us at work, school, home and in-between. This search can...

I believe we are all naturally inclined toward personal growth and success—each of us with our own strengths, desires, and goals that would lead us in the direction of contentment and happiness under optimal conditions. Problems arise because we don’t live in a perfect world, and in an effort to adapt, we sometimes develop strategies that make sense in the short term, but are not effective in...

Simply existing in this modern world will take its toll in countless ways and being a human comprised of many moving parts can stir up a whirlwind of emotions.
