Tourette Syndrome is repetitive movements, sounds, or speech in intermittent periods that are unwanted and interfere with daily life. There is no cure for Tourette Syndrome. But counseling interventions to address the effects of Tourettes and the behaviors themselves can be helpful.

Available Treatment Options

Habit reversal, a form of behavioral intervention where the person calls awareness to the tic and then performs a behavior that renders the tic impossible to do simultaneously, can be helpful for some. Others may benefit from combined therapy and medications.

Some counselors and therapists may also use relaxation and mindfulness techniques to alleviate some of the unhelpful thoughts a person has about themselves and their Tourette Syndrome and may even work to reduce the behaviors themselves.
