Growing up as a man in society brings unique gender, gender norms, and gender expression problems. Western culture brings with it sometimes unhelpful messages about masculinity: that men must be tough, not show emotions, enact violence, and gain power and status. Men are less likely to seek out mental health therapists than other genders. Men must recognize seeking treatment for mental health concerns doesn’t make them less masculine or manly. It implies that they acknowledge that their health is vital.
Available Treatment Options
Counselors can help men work through the hesitancy to talk about mental health within therapy sessions. Some men may benefit from seeing a therapist who also identifies as a man, as the shared knowledge of the impact of their gender can facilitate the healing process.

Most of life's problems seem simple to those around us. People on the outside of our lives looking in seem to have easy answers to our most difficult struggles. It's not very often that males are encouraged to seek help when dealing with the challenges of life. As a result, we resort to age-old adages that tell us to ignore the pain, 'man up', and soldier through it. But the fact of the matter is that we feel, we suffer, and we hurt and it has nothing to do with being a man and everything to do with being a human being. Men want healthy relationships, ...
