Are You Struggling With Borderline Personality?

Borderline Personality Disorder is difficulty in relationships, intense fears of abandonment, mood instability such as anger and sadness, impulsivity, and thinking in terms of extremes. Thoughts surrounding relationships often cause the most harm, as people with BPD tend to have an over-idealized or extremely negative picture of the same relationship. Impulsiveness can lead to risk-taking. Some people with BPD can have suicidal thoughts or self-harm behaviors.

Available Treatment Options

Therapist interventions for BPD often involve challenging unhelpful thought patterns in terms of a person’s ideas about themselves and their relationships, such as in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Once challenged, therapy can then help alter these thought patterns to be more helpful and realistic.

When you’re right up close to something it’s hard to see it clearly. Such is often the case with the problems in our lives. We’re too close to our own habits, patterns and histories to see what’s not working. When this is the case you may feel bad and not know why. Or you may know why, but still not know what to do. It can be frustrating and exhausting, but it’s not uncommon. I provide a...
