What is Humanistic Psychology?

Humanistic Psychology believes humans have an innate ability to grow and achieve higher levels of happiness and functioning. It asserts that people need safety in relationships. Therefore, your counselor will provide you with warmth, genuineness, and authenticity. Whatever problems you bring to counseling, your therapist will listen to you with empathy. The goal is for you to feel seen, heard, and understood.

Your counselor will guide you to find strengths within yourself that you can utilize to reach your potential. For this reason, Humanistic Psychology is more of a guiding theory than a specific approach to counseling. It can help many people with nearly any mental health issue.
