Uncomfortable symptoms exist for a reason. We can take medication to make them go away for a while. Alternatively, we can take the time and make the effort to listen to ourselves and work, with the help of a trained ear, to decipher what our symptoms reveal about what is not going well in our lives. As a psychoanalyst, I engage with my patients directly and know that their work is not done alone. Our work can be diverse in nature: it can focus on a very precise conflict; it can be about the desire to overcome a difficult experience or a painful past; it can mean learning about oneself or receiving support to move forward. Those uncomfortable symptoms: insomnia, fatigue, numbness, phobia, panic attacks, mood swings may seem common but the path to their interpretation is unique to each of us. Psychoanalysis offers the possibility to unveil our uniqueness and to understand our own deep desires in every symptom, in every word, in every story. I speak Spanish, French and English and I practice psychotherapy with children and their caregivers, adolescents and adults. In addition to individual therapy, I also counsel parents of children and adolescents and perform psychosocial assessments for court proceedings.
